Soft Hearted

One the weekend Lou very generously sent me the links to her newest creation. The kit is called 'Soft Hearted' and it's sooooooooo darn pretty. I used an old pic of my mom (before she was my mom, haha) because she was the most softhearted person I've ever known.

War of 1812 Bicentennial

Yesterday we went to watch a fabulous War of 1812 Naval battle re-enactment in Niagara-on-the-Lake. There were 5 tall sailing ships and 22 longboats with 300 naval re-enactors all dressed up in period costumes, lots of canons and muskets firing. We had a perfect vantage point and I got about 120 great pics. It was so cool to watch the tall ships sail across the lake, getting closer and closer, then the soldiers rowed to shore in the longboats and then the mock fighting began. It's always to fun because the American tourists root for the Americans and the Canadians root for the British, haha. We always have a blast and this year was extra special. From where we were standing I was only able to photograph the British troops.

Diamond Jubilee

Yesterday my hubby and I watched the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on TV. (3 1/2 hours = fabulous). I just LOVE stuff like this. So funny how the British newscasters refused to say the word 'rain' but referred to the weather as 'unrelentingly damp', haha. (It poured!) It didn't seem to dampen the spirits of the people though. I must say the Brits do Pageantry exceedingly well. So nice to see some Canadians taking part in the flotilla. Thought I'd make a little page to celebrate.

1983 Eric's Christening

We were discussing old hair styles on facebook and I made this simple little page just to show some of the gals my 80's perm, haha. This was taken on the day on my nephew Eric's Christening in 1983. My husband and I were (are) Eric's God Parents.

I used a retired kit called "Choochie Face" (by LouCee Creations) and another retired kit called "Baby Born"(by Meta Wulandari Design).

Fabulous

I was thinking about how quickly lives can change. It was only a few years ago that my niece posed for these photos, and now she's a wife and a mommy with two baby boys and is more beautiful than ever.

I used a kit called "Hey Girlfriend' (by LouCee Creations) and the matching freebie cluster frames that I grabbed (just this morning) on Lou's Facebook Fan Page and her blog.

The journaling says,

"Just a few years ago you were dreaming of being a wife and a mother, and now all of your dreams have come true. From your whirlwind courtship, to your fairy-tale wedding it's been an incredible story ... and now you have a loving husband, two beautiful baby boys and are still a gorgeous young woman. You are a fantastic Mommy, a fabulous person, a loyal and generous friend, and I'm very very proud of you. You are loved Shannon."

Garden Helpers

These are pics of my garden helpers, Dillon and Nat :)) I used papers and elements from two adorable new kits from Lou, 'The Potting Shed' and 'Behind The Potting Shed' (by LouCee Creations). This was such fun to play with. I miss our sweet Natty Boy.

La Grande Hermine

We pass this rusty hull of an old sailing ship quite often. It sits in the harbour near the shore about a 15 minute drive from our house. I've always thought it was neat and wondered about it so I looked up its history and decided to scrap it. I remember when it looked like the original wood ship until some vandals set it on fire. I took this photo last summer, on a perfectly calm day, without a ripple on the water, but a big storm was heading our way. It literally was the calm before the storm. I used "Beach Retreat" (by LouCee Creations).

The journaling says,

"A life-size replica of the vessel 'La Grande Hermine' was featured at Expo '67 in Montreal in 1967 where it served as a floating restaurant. It remained in Quebec for at least three decades.

The replica was later moved to Ontario with the intention of renovating it and re-opening it as a restaurant. Unfortunately, the new owner ran out of funds, and the ship sat in Jordan Harbour for years, unused.

In 2003, the ship was destroyed by what police called a suspicious fire, most likely the work of arsonists. The burned-out and rusting hull still sits in the harbour to this day."
