Spread Your Ears and Fly

These photos of Rudi (a handsome English Springer Spaniel, the best breed of dog on earth, lol) are from a lovely lady from Sweden named Britt Marie Webster that I met on Facebook. I told Britt that I loved her photo and wanted to make a page about Flight and her photo of Rudi with his ears flapping was perfect.

Britt said she was flattered and said I could use her photos. She also said that she really like that picture too, and it won a photo competition in her local newspaper a few years back.

So I happily made this page and sent it to her and she posted it on her blog Julita-Rudis Blogg.

I posted this page on GingerScraps yesterday, Wednesday (September 12th). This morning I got a message that it was nominated for Baker's Best 9/9-9/15

Update: On Sunday (September 16th) I got a message from GingerScraps that this layout was nominated for LOTW (layout of the week) and voting commenced. There are some truly gorgeous layouts this week, so I don't expect to win, but it is an honour to be chosen none-the-less. :)

Oh and I should mention, the Swedish text in the thought bubble says, "I have my own wings.", courtesy of freetranslation dot com, haha, but Britt said it's right.

That's me back in 1977, haha. My hubby was at the bottom of a hill and I was at the top. He told me to run up to the edge and jump up .... so I did and he took the pic. One shot ... back in the day when you had to wait a week to get your pics back and see if the darn thing turned out.

A Boy's Story

More pics shared by my niece. I love these photos of my grandnephew Hayden so much. Shannon just finished painting his new bedroom and I had helped her choose the colours (based on the bedding). Three walls are painted blue and one wall is that fabulous green colour. So fun. This is another one of my crazy 'use a lot of various kits' pages.

I'm not going to look up all the links for this like I usually do. I just don't have the time today :)

Week 1 ~ Back to Fresh

Today was the final day of Week 1 on the new weight loss/healthy lifestyle regime, called "Doing it 4 Digi Weight Loss Challenge" on the Scraps N Pieces forum. I had a very good week and concentrated on eating fresh food, made from scratch, with lots of fruits and veggies, good quality lean protein, whole grains, and low fat dairy. I made my own dressings using things like extra virgin olive oil and red wine vinegar, so although I had a little fat, it was the healthy kind. Fortunately I love to cook and I often photograph the meals I prepare so scrapping my faves from Week 1 was a natural for me, haha.

I did OK on the exercise front ... meaning I actually did some, which is a far cry from what I'd been doing for the previous 8 months, which was nothing. Hopefully tomorrow's weigh-in will reflect the effort I put in this week.

I used a kit called 'Freshly Squeezed' by Heather's Digital Creations and the journal card is from 'Mom's Diner' by Sweet Digi Scraps. All my recipes came from a recipe book called, 'The LooneySpoons Collection' by Janet and Greta Podleski.

I Love Ketchup!

My grand-nephew Hayden REALLY loves ketchup. I love this photo of him and his Daddy ... it was taken two weeks ago at "Hutches on the Beach". This is an old diner that I ate at many times when I was a kid, and even more often as a teen ... and it's still going strong today.

Hutch's Restaurant is a classic! Since 1946, the restaurant has built a reputation for its fabulous fish and chips, hamburgers and hotdogs "with the works", milkshakes and its own delicious brand of French fries. The atmosphere inside is made warm and friendly by the classic diner-style booths, old sports pictures on the walls and 1950s music on the jukebox. Hutch's classic combination of great food, fast service and 1950's-style dining makes it one of the area's most popular eateries.

I used a number of elements from a variety of kits, including... 'Mom's Diner' (by Sweet Digi Scraps). Love, love, love this kit. I won a $5.00 coupon from Liz (the designer) and chose this (and I ended up buying another kit while I was there, lol). I'm a huge fan of diners. My first website back in the late 80's was called The Dabble Diner :)

The gorgeous background paper is from 'Cruising' (by Mel Hains). This was another amazing deal ... it was on sale earlier this month for $1.00 and it's super cute. I love that the painted paper reminds me of water, and since the restaurant is on the beach and the colour matched Hayden's shirt, I just had to use it.

The SVG wavy shape is from Barb at Albums to Remember. I filled it with black and white tiled paper because the diner actually has that floor, haha.

I also used a few bits from 'That's My Dad' (by Mye De Leon). It's an absolutely gorgeous kit that is on sale for $1.00. Mye has opened a new store and will be selling exclusively at Digital Design House. She is leaving MyMemories, GottaPixel and Scrapmatters and retiring over 70 products, so I picked up a bunch more of her $1.00 kits (reg. $5.99).

The Nautical cluster by Flower Scraps was a freebie. And finally I extracted the ketchup bottle (because only Heinz will do, lol); made the ketchup hearts and wordart; and added the Hutches logo to the drink cup.
