Work in Progress

Please Note: Blog Archives are at the bottom of the page.
I started this blog on June 14, 2012. I plan to post my previous scrap pages, from the most recent > working backwards; and add new scrap pages as I create them. It could take awhile, as I'd scrapped nearly 400 pages prior to starting this blog. Each one was the best I could do with the photos I had on the day it was made, and each has special meaning to me.

Boyz Rule

Two of my grand-nephews, 3 year old Devin and 1 1/2 year old Hayden (they're cousins). I think I got a bit carried away with the embellishments, hahaha. Somedays it seems like once I start adding I can't stop... just like eating Lays potato chips. :)

Everything except 1 wordart is from the 'Rough and Tumble' NSD Blog Hop (PDW).
The 'Boyz Rule' wordart is from Swap 85 (Wordart World by Jennifer).
Template/Sketch: Bumbershoot (Jeanye Labaya Designs) *highly modified.

Playing Crib with Dad

MyMemories Blog is having a *#1 Dad Challenge*. My dad passed away in 1984 (6 years after this photo was taken). I really don't have many photos of Dad and I together. It's kind of sad really. He had his problems, but he tried his best, worked hard all his life, having two jobs much of the time, yet when we were little he taught all three of us kids to love nature and animals, sports and games, reading and journaling. He passed away 6 weeks before he was due to receive his first Old Age Security cheque at the age of 65. I rememeber that he had been really looking forward to getting that first cheque. RIP Dad.

I used a kit called 'Remember' (Word Art World by Jennifer), and this week's swap freebie wordart. The cribbage board and cards are from Dreamsfulfilled.

RIP Jesse James

Today was a very sad day for me. Our 13 year old budgie, Jesse James passed away. He had been acting very quiet and sleepy for the past three days and wasn't eating or drinking much. Every hour I would reach into his cage and hold food and water up for him and he would take a bit, then go back to sleep. It was so unlike him, as for 13 years he was chirpy, happy, active, cheerful and affectionate every waking moment.

I had contacted an avian veterinarian, but she said that 13 was very old for a budgie and if I tried to bring him into the clinic for a checkup the stress would be too much for him. So I followed her instructions, lowered his perches, placed folded up towels in the bottom of his cage (in case he fell), kept him warm and quiet, and tried to keep him as comfortable as possible. This morning he was quieter than ever. I took a few photos of him, knowing in my heart the end was near.

Late this afternoon I was in the kitchen and happened to be watching Jesse as he slept with his head tucked under his wing, when he suddenly just stretched his wings straight out from his body, then slowly, slowly, slowly toppled off his perch and landed softly on the towels. Within a few seconds he stopped breathing. I think his heart finally gave out. I burst into tears, but was very grateful that the end was quick for him. Poor old Jesse. I loved him dearly and will miss him terribly.

I used Word Art World by Jennifer's June Facebook exclusive, "Memories" kit to make this page for Jesse.

1945 Beautiful Mom

I used a kit called "i doodle love u" (Word Art World by Jennifer) and Jennifer's Mother's Day (SWAP 82) wordart. Roadside Designs had a free Mother's Day template (which I can't use in MyMemories), but I flipped it around and sort of scraplifted (copied the layout) it as a starting point for my page.

Adorable Together

For this page I used a freebie kit from Word Art World by Jennifer (January FB exclusive (Adventure Kit) and wordart from Jennifer's (SWAP 82) freebie.

The journaling says,

"Dillon and Nathaniel, July 2003

Dillon used to hop up onto this chair every day to take a nap. As soon as he got comfy, Nathaniel would jump up and sit right on top of Dillon, and just stay there, looking out the front window.

Dillon never seemed to mind having his fifty pound pal squashing him. Most of the time he didn't even bother to open his eyes, just kept right on napping.
